Registered Dietitians are nutrition experts who have completed
at least a bachelor’s degree in nutrition at an accredited
university or college that is approved by the Commission on Accreditation
for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association
(ADA). Following the undergraduate work, a 900-hour internship
is completed. Finally, a national examination must be passed, ensuring
that competency is achieved. Continuing education requirements
make certain that practice standards are based on the most current
nutritional research and evidence.
An Exercise Physiologist is a person who has an academic degree
in exercise physiology, or who is certified by ASEP to practice
exercise physiology [via the Exercise Physiologist Certified exam
(EPC)], or who has a doctorate degree with an academic degree or
emphasis in exercise physiology from an accredited college or university.
They study the body and how it is effected by exercise. They also
work to develop exercise plans that help people recover quicker
and stronger after an accident and improve overall fitness. Beyond
the advanced degrees, exercise physiologists must spend years putting
their training to work.
Kinesiologists study the factors that influence human movement
and look for ways to improve the efficiency and performance of
the human body at work, in sport and in daily life. Kinesiologists
study all aspects (psychological, physiological, biomechanical,
historical and sociological) of human movement in home, work, sport
and recreational environments. Kinesiologists usually have an interdisciplinary
background (physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, biomedical engineering,
psychology, statistics). The minimum education requirement is a
related four year bachelor's degree. Many people currently working
in the field have a master's degree in physical education.
